The Tooth Fairy Cometh

Posted on: August 2, 2011

My son has been teething since he was 5 months old.  Any parent can tell you what a “joy” that is.  The fussiness, crying, drooling, putting EVERYTHING in their mouths….

When “G” went to the pediatrician for his 6 month check up in early May, the doctor said, “I can see the white of the teeth under his gums.  It shouldn’t be long now.  His teeth should come up really soon”.  I was hopeful.  I really was.  Three weeks go by and still no teeth.  Memorial Day rolls around and we go to our friends house for a picnic.  At the picnic was another friend of ours and their 5 month old.  I was amazed to find out that she had two teeth already!  Not only is she younger than my little man, but she was born premature, so technically she was only 4 months old and had two teeth.  I thought that was just not fair.

So, the next few months go by and are filled with lots of chewing on things, use of baby Orajel and Tylenol, teething rings, frozen teething rings….I even bought a teething necklace.  On and on and no teeth.

Then, it happened.  Yesterday morning I saw a very noticeable white area on my little man’s gums.  I put my finger in his mouth to feel his gums and could feel the top of a tooth!  FINALLY!  It’s not all the way up yet, but it has definitely pushed through the gums and is here!  Thank goodness!

Now I can breathe a sigh of relief and perhaps have a little respite from teething before his second tooth comes.
