Play date for mommy

Posted on: August 17, 2011

One of my favorite commercials shows three women sitting on a couch talking and eating.  At one point, one of them says, “We should do this more often. I think the kids really enjoy it”.  Then, it cuts to a shot of three babies sleeping in their car seats.  I can’t tell you what this commercial is for because I can’t remember, but, I LOVE the concept of it.  Play date’s are not just for kids, they are for mommies too.

This past weekend I had the chance to spend time with my dear friend Christine and her family.  We were way overdue to spend some time together, so it was great to catch up.  Her husband had to go to work, so it ended up being a mommy and kids afternoon and we had a great time.  Christine has two adorable sons, one younger than “G” and one older.  It was so much fun to get them together and watch them play. As you can see, they had a great time.

But, even better, was the time Christine and I got to spend talking.

When you’re a mom, you need to have other mom friends who you can talk to and relate to.  You can talk about things like nursing and pumping, poopy diapers, baby bed time routines, the emotions and stress of being a parent and get advice from each other as well.  And you don’t have to worry about boring the person you’re talking to because they don’t have kids, or being judged by someone who may not understand what you’re experiencing.  You can just be open and honest and be yourself.  You can let your kids scream and play, run all over the house, change their diapers, and nurse your babies in front of each other and it’s perfectly ok.  You’re both moms.  It’s what you do and, it’s great.

I say all of this but please understand that I cherish the time I have with all of my friends, whether they have children or not.  I love them all dearly and wouldn’t trade them for the world.  I’d be lost without my best girlfriends (You know who you are ladies, whether you’re in Rochester, Nashville, or Chicago).  Sometimes you need a night out with the girls and sometimes you need those mommy play dates.  Both are refreshing, fun, and relaxing.  And, I’m grateful for them.

Those are very nice pictures 🙂 Yeah though we are busy with our kids, we still need to hang out with our friends. I do the same thing, I also spend sometime with my friends only without my sons, but sometime with friends and my sons too 🙂

Yulia – Thanks for the comment! That friend time is definitely needed! I’m so glad I am able to spend time with my friends when I do.

Oh Yay! We had such a fun time too! Thanks for coming over. We need to do it again soon! 🙂 Love those mommy playdates!

Yes, we definitely should do that again soon! 🙂
