Weight loss that works

Posted on: October 18, 2011

There are two kinds of women in this world.  Those whose bodies magically pop right back into shape the second after they give birth and those whose bodies take…well, a bit longer.  Guess which category I fit in?  Yep, the second.  I gained around 35 punds when I was pregnant.  25 of those unwanted pounds came off within the first six weeks of giving birth.  The other ten stuck around and added themselves to the extra weight I gained for absolutely no good reason before I got pregnant.

I’ve tried losing the weight a bunch of times since then but haven’t had much success.  I would get into a groove of exercising and eating carefully and lose a few pounds, but then I’d get out of it and the weight would come right back.  When you’re working a full-time job, a part-time job, being a parent, volunteering at church, and have a husband who goes in and out-of-town for work, it can be hard to get into a good rhythm of exercising and eating right.

Well, last month I decided it was high time I get my butt in gear and finally lose the weight for good.  I started watching what I ate, how much I ate and exercising 3-4 times a week.  I started with the Leslie Sansone Walk at Home DVD’s.  I did her Fast & Firm 4 Really Big Miles work out.  I was skeptical at first because I wasn’t sure that a walking video would really help me lose weight. But, my husband said the women he works with swear by this DVD and love it. So, I gave it a try and discovered that I really liked it a lot.  Now, it’s not as tough of a workout as a lot of other programs, but it does give you a great cardio work out, and works your legs, abs, and arms.  I definitely began to notice changes in my body and started to lose weight.

A couple of weeks later my friend Christine decided she also wanted to lose weight.  She came up with a great weight loss plan, created a food journal and shared it on her blog.  I was excited because now I had someone who could embark on this weight loss journey with me.  Christine was using the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred work out DVD.  I had heard great things about it and decided to use it myself.  And, let me tell you, this program is intense!  It’s the most intense 20 minute work out I’ve ever done and I LOVE it!  It’s only been a couple of weeks and I’m already seeing results.

Since starting with Walk at Home, I’ve lost about 10 pounds.  I’m very excited and hoping I can reach my goal of 30 pounds by January.  Here goes!
