One year check up

Posted on: November 11, 2011

Yesterday was “G”‘s one year check up.  I’m not going to comment on how I can’t belive he’s already one because I already did that here and here.

I was excited and also a bit nervous about this appointment.  At G’s nine month check up the pediatrician had said she was concerned his soft spot might be closing too quickly and that if it did, he would need to see a specialist.  He already goes to Physical Therapy once a week and the thought of something being seriously wrong with my little man and him having to see another specialist was frightening.  So, I was anxiously awaiting his one year appointment to see how he is doing now.  I am very happy to report that everything is great!  The doctor said his head is growing like it should and his soft spot is where it should be as well.  I wanted to shout and do cartwheels in the Dr.’s office, but I restrained myself.

The rest of his appointment went well also.  You may remember from a previous post that we also discovered he had low iron levels at his nine month appointment.  The nurse had told me “G” would need to have his blood taken again at his one year appointment to check to see if his iron levels had improved.  When I mentioned this to the doctor, she looked at his record and said she wasn’t worried about it.  The iron level he showed at his nine month appointment, wasn’t low enough to cause concern. She said it wasn’t anything to fret about.  This made me ecstatic and so relieved!  After seeing my son go through a vein blood draw at the last appointment, I was not looking forward to having that done again.

We also had the usual measurements taken; weight (19lb, 8.9oz), length (29  3/4″), head circumference (43 1/2cm) and he had to get some vaccinations as well.  But, my little guy was a trooper and did well during his appointment.  He cried, of course, when he got the shots, but recovered quickly and I gave him some Tylenol to help ease the pain.  The pediatrician also confirmed my suspicions that my little man is getting more teeth.

So, all in all, it was a great appointment and I couldn’t have asked for it to go any better.
