A love/hate relationship with food

Posted on: January 8, 2015

It’s hard to describe what it’s like to be the parent of a child with life threatning food allergies. I often times feel like I’m standing out on a ledge thousands of feet in the air all alone. People say, “I’m so sorry” when they find out. Or, “I didn’t know it was that bad” but they can’t really understand what it feels like unless they too have experienced it.

Today I read an article on the Huffington Post by a fellow mom of a child with severe food allergies. She does a wonderful job of describing what it’s like to have a child with such needs.

So, I’m posting a link to her article here and encourage you all to read it.  Even if you don’t know anyone with food allergies or anyone who has a child with food allergies, please read it so you can understand and try to sympathize with those who spend their days and nights worrying about how one small bite of food could kill their child, instead of criticizing them when they ask you not to eat specific foods around their child(ren).
