5 Ways to Help Your Morning Routine Go More Smoothly

It’s a typical morning.

You get up, get dressed, get your kids out of bed. Grab a quick breakfast as you make sure your kids eat their breakfast. The kids are moving as slowly as a sloth, not realizing the pressing need to get out of the house in order to get to school and work on time. Maybe you’re rushing to get lunches made before the kids hop on the bus and you run out the door.

Always rushing in the morning.

Let’s face it. This is how many of us start our days. Running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off trying to get your kids and ourselves ready for the day and out the door. And it can be stressful. 

But it doesn’t have to be. 

I’ve found that if I do 5 simple things, my mornings go much more smoothly and I can get out the door on time and not feeling stressed.

 

1. Make lunches the night before

If you prep your kids lunches the night before, that’s one less thing to do in the morning. Find some time right after dinner to make and pack lunches. Store them in the fridge overnight and all you have to do in the morning is grab them and go!

 

2. Pick out your and your children’s clothes ahead of time

This is one we don’t always think about but it makes a huge difference in your morning routine.

Before your children go to bed, have them pick out an outfit for the next day and lay it out. Then, do the same thing for yourself. I can’t even tell you how much time this will save you in the morning! It may even save you some arguments with your children over what they’re wearing that day.

 

3. Chose a simple grooming routine

As moms and women, we want to look our best. And we should. BUT, that doesn’t mean we have to spend an hour in the bathroom getting ready in the morning.

By simplifying your makeup and hair styles, you will spend less time in the bathroom and still look beautiful.

4. Minimize distractions

My boys love to watch TV in the morning when they first wake up. The problem is, they get so wrapped up in what they’re watching that they don’t want to eat breakfast, get dressed, brush their teeth, or do anything else in order to get ready for the day.

In order to combat this, we’ve come up with an arrangement. The boys have to get dressed and eat breakfast before they can watch TV. Then they also have to brush their teeth and put shoes on. If they don’t obey, they can’t watch any TV. But, if they do what they are asked, they can watch some television before we leave.

 

5. Get up on time

I know this one seems obvious, but it is so easy to just hit that snooze button when the alarm goes off. Just five more minutes…next thing you know, you wake up and 20 minutes have passed and you realize if you don’t get going, you’ll be late.

Nothing makes you rush through your morning more than waking up late.

If you find yourself feeling over tired each morning, try to go to bed a little earlier. Even a half hour earlier than normal will help. Then you won’t be hitting that snooze button and rushing to get ready.
