Just Breathe

Posted on: October 10, 2016

As the mother of two young boys and someone who works multiple part time jobs, life can be a bit hectic, to say the least.

I often find myself standing in the kitchen starting at my calendar on the wall thinking, “It’s gonna be another crazy week.”

Sometimes the busyness of life just overtakes us and it can feel overwhelming.

We are constantly on the go; going to school, soccer practice, play rehearsal, work, birthday parties, church, play dates, and so on. There is so much!

But how often do we take the time to just stop and breathe? To just step back from the chaos, lay it all at God’s feet and breathe.

One of my favorite songs as of late is “Breathe” by Johnny Diaz.

The lyrics say,

“Alarm clock screaming bare feet hit the floor
It’s off to the races everybody out the door
I’m feeling like I’m falling behind, it’s a crazy life.
Ninety miles an hour going fast as I can
Trying to push a little harder trying to get the upper hand
So much to do in so little time, it’s a crazy life
It’s ready, set, go it’s another wild day
When the stress is on the rise in my heart I feel you say

Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe”

That is truly what we need. When the craziness and chaos of life overwhelm us and stress takes a hold of us, we need to just take a moment and breathe. Know that God is in control and you can lift it all up to Him.

Stress doesn’t have to be a part of our daily life; it doesn’t have to control us.

It’s so easy to always be on the go and let the stress of our day take over.

I know. I’ve done it. I do it all the time.

But I’ve been making a conscious effort lately to change. To take a step back when life gets hectic and to breathe. Literally. I’ll just stop and take a deep breathe. Often times I’ll open up my music on my iPhone and play this song.

And it really does help.

When you can control the stress and chaos, you create a more peaceful atmosphere in your home. It can be a home where God’s peace overrides everything else and chaos takes a back seat.

So, when you feel life’s craziness creeping upon you, just breathe…
