When my oldest son was born, I was working full time as a school receptionist. I can still remember my first day back to work after maternity leave…

I remember dropping my son off at the sitter’s house and lingering because I didn’t want to leave him. The thought of my son spending his days with someone else and not me was difficult. I wanted to be there for all his firsts and those special little moments. I didn’t want the babysitter to be the one who got to experience that. I wanted it.

I cried in the car on my way to work. It wasn’t what I wanted, but it was what needed to be done for our family to stay afloat financially.

When it came time for our second son to be born, my husband and I decided I would stay home…
